The Truffle Group Pty Ltd

V8 Supercars
Sydney Opera House Hospitality Functions
Large Scale Corporate Functions Project Director
Senior Project Director

I would just like to say up front that I in no way wish to take credit for other people’s work. I was merely, for a number of years, whilst I was studying, engaged as a Project Manager on a consulting basis to organise a number of large scale catering and event projects for the then very busy Truffle Group. The events industry is a collaborative enterprise, The Truffle Group was started by Tom Rutherford before being aquired by hospitality industry entreprenuer’s Rob Rubis and Chris James, and many incredibly talented people have worked with the company over the years. When I was working for The Truffle Group they were organising over 600 events a year and won numerous awards including National Venue Caterer of the Year, Best Caterer of a Major Event, National Best Caterer of a Major Event, and NSW Caterer of the Year. As one of their Project Manager’s I was responsible for the organisation of a number of large scale Christmas catering events along the northern boardwalk of the Sydney Opera House. I was also entrusted with Project Managing, the Truffle Groups, catering rights for the V8 Supercar events at Symmons Plains, Tasmania and Eastern Creek, Sydney. In 2005 I organised a number of catering and bar components for the V8 Supercars at the Bathurst 1000, which was the last major event I did before starting full-time study for my Masters and PhD degrees. I have maintained many friendships from my time at The Truffle Group and look forward to hopefully working with them all again.

St Vincent’s Hospital,

Victor Chang Cardiac Research Centre

Marketing and Fundraising consultancy

After the murder of the extrordinary Dr Victor Chang I was moved to undertake a major fundraising campaign for St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney and the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Centre. After securing agreement from St Vincent’s Hospital, secured agreement of Dire Straits promoter Gary Van Egmond, and INXS as the head-line acts for a major fund-raising concert. Due to poor tour ticket sales Dire Straits pulled out but INXS’s management fully committed offering to secure agreement of the Australian music industry support. The concert line-up included INXS, Crowded House, Yothu Yindi, Jimmy Barnes and Diesel, Jenny Morris with Wendy Matthews and Kate Cebrano, James Reyne, James Blundell, Debra Conway, Def FX & Ratcat. INXS’s managements main condition was that we secure Centennial Park as the venue. Only two event’s had ever been staged in Centennial Park, Federation celebrations in 1901, and return of troops parade at the end of the 2nd World War. Centennial Park was seen as the halo turf…it wasn’t going to be easy.

Secured the Centennial Park Trust and the NSW Government agreement for use of Centennial Park. Secured cash flow funding through Westpac Bank, and corporate sponsorship. Was one of the Executive Producers for the INXS -Concert for Life, that raised $608k for St Vincent’s and $240k for the Centennial Park Trust, and the subsequent fundraising event for St Vincent’s Hospital that I also concieved and created, The Hey Hey it’s Saturday joint Elton John Aids Benefit Concert that raised an additional $1million dollars for St Vincent’s Hospital and the AIDS Trust of Australia.
